Dave’s Vision for Albemarle County
Above all else, Dave wants to work with his neighbors and county leaders to ensure that we have a prosperous local economy that works for everyone, built on a foundation of fair taxation and uncompromised civil rights.
Dave is also committed to join and lead a concerted effort to maintain our great public schools, to create a smart transportation system that minimizes costly delays, and to generate real affordable housing options.
And he believes that we must do all of this while also preserving our county’s abundant natural resources and rural character, not just for those who live in the county’s “greener pastures,” but for all of us who depend on this treasured endowment for clean air and water, recreation, and healthy lives.
Dave also supports these specific goals and reforms:
Ranked Choice Voting—to enhance civic engagement and democracy
Housing Policy that utilizes many tools, acknowledges the need for steady public investment, and which is focused sharply on the prevention of displacement and on the maintenance of existing but also rapidly disappearing affordable options
Tax reform guided by the key “ability-to-pay” principle, so that tax liabilities don’t outpace the means to pay them
“Development” policy that is more intensive than extensive, focused on helping our neighbors and existing businesses
Working with state and federal partners to develop a true multi-modal transportation system, with a vigorous push for urban-ring transit and bicycle-pedestrian commuter options
